The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former presidential candidate Peter Obi over what it described as a “false and misleading narrative” regarding the Senate’s position on the electronic transmission of election results. In a statement issued by the party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said it had taken note of recent clarifications by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, which reaffirmed the Senate’s longstanding support for the use of technology in elections.

According to the party, the Senate’s stance aligns with the Electoral Act and remains subject to the operational capacity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).The party argued that these clarifications debunk claims that the Senate rejected electronic transmission of results, alleging that Obi hastily amplified the narrative without verifying the facts.Oladejo stated that the episode reflects what the party described as Obi’s “rush to judgment” and preference for sensational commentary over verified records. He added that such conduct is unbecoming of anyone aspiring to the nation’s highest office.

The Lagos APC further questioned what it called a “desperate and relentless attempt” by Obi and his supporters to discredit the electoral process, warning that such actions could fuel mistrust, stoke division, and undermine confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.Describing the development as part of a “growing pattern of gaffes,” the party claimed that Obi has repeatedly commented on complex legislative, economic, and policy matters without adequate verification, only to be contradicted by official recordds

The statement also accused the former Anambra State governor of selectively using statistics and half-truths stripped of context, thereby eroding confidence in his public interventions.Additionally, the Lagos APC expressed concern over Obi’s alleged habit of portraying Nigeria negatively on international platforms. While acknowledging that constructive criticism is vital in a democracy, the party maintained that persistent emphasis on national failures without balance could damage investor confidence and national morale.

Oladejo also pointed to what the party termed contradictions between Obi’s current rhetoric and policies during his time in public office. He attributed some of the former governor’s challenges to an “overreliance on social media populism,” which he said has resulted in premature statements and avoidable reversals. The party further alleged that Obi has been reluctant to firmly disassociate himself from extremist conduct by some supporters, raising questions about his leadership temperament and ability to foster national cohesion.

According to the Lagos APC, democracy is strengthened by truth, accuracy, restraint, and responsibility rather than misrepresentation or disparaging the country.“Nigeria deserves leadership anchored in diligence, emotional intelligence, and genuine patriotism,” Oladejo said, concluding that “once again, the facts have spoken—and once again, Peter Obi got it wrong.”
