Hon. (Prince) Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has celebrated Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, JP, MFR, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, describing the elder statesman as a father, mentor and one of the influential figures who have shaped the political landscape of Lagos over the past several decades.
In a heartfelt birthday message, Kasunmu said Cardinal Odunmbaku’s life represents decades of dedicated service, political experience, wisdom and commitment to the development of Lagos State.
The lawmaker, who represents Ikeja Constituency II, spoke with particular warmth about the personal relationship between them, describing the octogenarian as a political father whose counsel, guidance and encouragement have significantly influenced his own journey in public service.
According to Kasunmu, Cardinal Odunmbaku’s contribution to Lagos politics goes beyond party politics, noting his longstanding role as a bridge-builder, strategist and respected voice whose influence has transcended generations.
He particularly acknowledged Cardinal Odunmbaku’s service as a member of the prestigious Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos, describing his wealth of experience and political sagacity as invaluable assets to the state.
“Cardinal Odunmbaku is much more than a political leader to me; he is a father and a mentor. His guidance, counsel and encouragement have played an important role in my journey, and I remain deeply grateful for the privilege of learning from him,” Kasunmu said.
The Deputy Majority Leader noted that the celebrant’s 80th birthday was an opportunity not only to celebrate his longevity but also to honour the enduring legacy he has built through decades of service to the people and political development of Lagos.
He added that Cardinal Odunmbaku’s ability to inspire, mentor and bring people together remains one of his most remarkable qualities, describing his footprints in Lagos politics as “indelible.”
Kasunmu expressed gratitude to God for the life of the respected political leader and prayed for continued good health, strength, peace and many more years of fulfilment.
“Daddy, at 80, your footprints are indelible, your influence remains profound, and your voice continues to command respect across generations. I celebrate you with a heart full of gratitude and admiration,” Kasunmu added.
He congratulated Cardinal Odunmbaku on the milestone birthday and expressed hope that the years ahead would bring him greater joy, fulfilment and the satisfaction of seeing the many lives and institutions he has influenced continue to flourish.
