The remains of Abuja-based singer, Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, have been committed to mother earth in Enugu State, marking the end of a solemn period of mourning by relatives, associates and admirers.
Nanyah, aged 26, reportedly passed away last month following a snake bite incident at her residence in Abuja, according to family sources.
Activities for her final rites commenced with a service of songs held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Abule Oshun, Lagos, where family members and friends gathered to honour her memory with hymns and heartfelt tributes.
Subsequently, a requiem mass was conducted on Feb. 12, after which a candlelight wake took place on Feb. 13 at the Nwangene family compound in Enugu, drawing sympathisers and well-wishers.
Community members later assembled on Saturday in her hometown for the interment ceremony, paying their last respects during the burial proceedings.
A thanksgiving service billed for Feb. 15 is expected to formally conclude the funeral arrangements.Earlier, friends and associates had celebrated her life during a tribute organised by the Amemuso Choir, where speakers and choristers reflected on her dedication to music and shared fond memories.
Although she was not widely recognised on mainstream music charts, Nanyah cultivated a devoted online following, with nearly 40,000 followers on Instagram. Her sound reflected a blend of classical, jazz, R&B and soul influences.
Born and raised in Nigeria, she graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she served as choir mistress at St. Mulumba’s Catholic Chaplaincy.
She was also an active member of the Amemuso Choir and previously featured as a contestant on The Voice Nigeria.
Her passing has continued to draw condolences from colleagues in the music community and supporters across social media platforms.
